How do we work?
Children’s Aid Dominican Republic is working in the Netherlands to raise as many sponsors and donors as possible. The Dutch foundation works closely with the Dominican foundation Ninos del Mundo Nigua. This consists of parents (mostly the mothers), teachers, former sponsor children and a full-time secretary Fanny Geronimo Rodriquez. They take care of all the work on site and they make the selection of which children qualify for our program.
With your financial contribution, we facilitate education in several ways. We pay the school fees, uniforms and books of the students included in our program. In addition, we organize and reimburse the transportation of the deaf children to the often distant deaf schools. And we help with the purchase of teaching aids or the appointment of an additional teacher. Furthermore, we have a University Fund for students who attend University but for whom the cost is too high. Finally, we encourage mothers to take vocational courses so that they can earn their own income.
In addition, we support the home of the children in our program. E.g. by reimbursing medications in case of illness, providing monthly food packages for grandparent families and their grandchildren, or we offer assistance to families without documents in registering to become official Dominican citizens.
