June 12, 2021 – Children’s Aid Dominican Republic’s two buses are in dire need of replacement. Due to intensive use on poor roads, they are on their last legs. The buses provide transportation for the deaf children in our program. They often live far away from the deaf school and without these buses the deaf education is inaccessible for them. Because of cost, but also because of safety on the road.
In early June we started an action to raise the money for a large and reliable second-hand bus. We are approaching companies and organizations to help us. The first pledges are already in.
The cost of educating deaf children is higher than regular education. The parents of the children in our program are unable to pay these high costs. Let alone when added to that is the cost of public transportation. The children often live too far away to walk to school.
